RESIDENTS are being urged to make sure their chimneys are swept before using them after a blaze at a home.

A fire engine was called to Bowens Heath, Leysters, near Tenbury Wells, after a call about a chimney fire at 12.30pm on Saturday.

Hereford and Worcester Fire and Rescue Service is keen to prevent a repeat of the incident and has now issued safety advice to householders.

Sharon Jones, community safety department fire officer, said: “While this particular chimney fire was under control very rapidly they have the potential to be very serious and can cause extensive damage or serious injury.

"Most chimney fires can be prevented simply by having chimneys swept on a regular basis and we hope by highlighting this fire we can encourage people to book an appointment.”
