A NONSENSICAL letter about roadworks has been sent out to households causing confusion and hysterical laughter in equal measure.

Posted just days before carriageway resurfacing works in Brownheath Road, off Pershore Lane, on the northern outskirts of Worcester, were due to take place, people were left scratching their heads when they opened the envelope.

The letter sent out to people in the area on Wednesday, August 24, starts off by explaining that the planned works would no longer be taking place that weekend and goes on to apologise for the inconvenience caused before urging residents in a somewhat confusing and unintelligible manner: “Please do not park on this road between as we will need the area free of vehicles. Will be in effect throughout the works.”

The letter then goes on to say access to properties might be limited at times.

The letter states: “We will endeavour to keep disruption to a minimum during this period and would very much appreciate your patience and co-operation during the completion of these works.”

Yuleen Jewell, who received a letter, said: “This is an absolute classic and gives an insight into why our infrastructure is more third world than the third world.”

A spokesman for Ringway, the contractor which carries out roadworks on behalf of Worcestershire County Council, said: “Work to improve the road surface on Brownheath Road was originally planned for last weekend and a letter was sent out to notify residents in the area ahead of this time.

“However, it was decided to postpone because of the potential disruption to those living locally and motorists as a similar scheme was taking place nearby on Smite Lane at the same time.

“The work on Brownheath Road will now take place in mid-October.

“We apologise for any confusion caused by the final letter which did not meet the standards we expect.

“We will be keeping residents informed in advance of what will be taking place in October.”
