ENTRIES for the Make A Difference campaign have been flying in but there is still plenty of time to get your application in if you have not already done so.

The campaign - a joint venture between the Worcester News and Worcester Round Table - aims to give away thousands of pounds to worthy causes, and it could be your club or group that benefits. Up to £1,000 will be distributed every month to worthy community-based clubs, charities, groups and societies who are in need of a cash boost.

Sarah Bevan, head of promotions at the Worcester News, said: "We have joined forces with Worcester Round Table to make a difference to our community and we are delighted with the response so far. We want to redistribute the money to those in the community that need it the most.

"Although we can only give out up to £1,000 a month, all who miss out will be considered next month. No application will be disregarded so whether you need a piece of equipment for a local youth club or building materials for a community centre, everything will be considered from the very young to the very old."

At the launch of the campaign, community service liaison officer for Worcester Round Table, Rob Lambert, said: "There are a lot of good local charities out there which are kind of hidden away and not often heard about but this campaign is a way of finding out who these people are so we can then maybe give them some help."

The money is raised through the fund-raising efforts of Worcester Round Table volunteers and events such as the bonfire and firework display in November and the sale of hot chestnuts at the Victorian Christmas fair.

More than £15,000 has been distributed to more than 60 worthwhile causes since the campaign's launch in 2003.

The Worcester Round Table has been serving the city for more than 50 years.

Closing date for this month's applications is Saturday, September 30.

Successful applicants will be notified within a week of the closing date.

See Saturday's Worcester News and complete the coupon and tell us why your organisation deserves a donation, how much you would like, and what the money will be spent on.

Applications should be sent to: Sarah Bevan, Worcester News, Hylton Road, Worcester, WR2 5JX.

Unsuccessful applicants will be considered for future donations.
