TRADESMEN are being warned of the dangers of asbestos.

Wychavon District Council is backing the Health and Safety Executive's Don't take the Gamble' campaign, running this month and next.

Environmental health officer Eamon Rodgers, right, said: "Asbestos materials in good condition are safe, unless the asbestos fibres become airborne, which happens when the materials are damaged.

"Airborne asbestos fibres can be deadly if they are inhaled over a long period of time."

Asbestos was used as a building material from the 1950s through to the mid-1980s.

The campaign is aimed at trades which come into regular contact with asbestos and promotional playing card packs are available at building and plumbing suppliers to raise awareness.

Also pictured is Cotswold Building Supplies director David Galbraith, who is supporting the campaign.
