WORCESTER JobCentre Plus is gearing up to help several city employers fill their seasonal vacancies by hosting a Christmas jobsfair at the Sansome Street office.

More than 200 full and part-time jobs will be on offer, including retail assistants, stockroom operatives, replenishment assistants and mail sorters. Most of the jobs are temporary, though some positions may become permanent in the new year. More than 10 employers will be exhibiting including Royal Mail, Marks and Spencer and BHS.

Jamie Jacobsen, manager for Worcester JobCentre Plus, said: "This is a unique opportunity for people looking for work to meet face-to-face with employers, discuss the posts on offer and complete application forms immediately. This helps to speed up the recruitment process, allowing employers to find the right people for their vacancies and ensuring our jobseekers are placed into the most suitable jobs in the shortest possible time. I'm really delighted with the response of employers who are coming along to this event which will allow us to bring more than 200 jobs to a single convenient location for local people."

Specialist JobCentre Plus advisers will also be available at the jobsfair to talk to people about a range of extra help, including support for people aged 50 plus, lone parents wanting to return to work and people with disabilities. They can also give information on the range of financial help that may be available when starting work.

Mr Jacobson added: "More and more people are recognising the benefits of short-term seasonal work as a great way to sample different jobs.

"For some people, such as parents with young children, or people who want to return to work after ill health or a disability, seasonal work can be particularly beneficial. It can fit in with individuals' lifestyles, childcare or just provide a way of easing back into full-time, permanent employment."

The jobsfair is due to take place on Saturday, September 30, from 11am to 3pm.
