YOUNGSTERS can benefit from free maps given out by Ordnance Survey.

For the fifth year running, Ordnance Survey has aimed to give a free OS Explorer Map to every 11-year-old in Britain, sending out more than 700,000 every year.

The map can be used at home as well as school, and Year 7 pupils from schools across England, Scotland and Wales have already begun ordering their maps online.

Ordnance Survey's education manager Roger Jeans said: "Four years on from the original launch of the scheme, the number of pupils confident in their understanding of maps has doubled."

Teachers must place orders online by Tuesday, October 31 on the Ordnance Survey website at www.ordnancesurvey/ freemapsfor11yearolds
