A MAN who threatened police officers and doorstaff at a Worcester nightclub has been given a six- month curfew order.

Michael Simpson pleaded guilty to a public order offence of causing harassment, alarm or distress when he appeared before magistrates.

Colin Heald, prosecuting, said Simpson, aged 26, was seen by two police officers arguing aggressively with bouncers outside the Velvet Lounge in Angel Place in the early hours of Sunday, August 21.

Mr Heald said: “Officers come across the defendant at 3am.

“The man was involved in a confrontation with bouncers at the Velvet Lounge nightclub.

“It looked like he was goading the two males for a fight.

“One of the officers asked the defendant to walk around the corner but he continued to gesture at the doormen.”

Mr Heald said the officer then tried to gently usher Simpson away from the scene. He said: “The defendant then gave a fixed menacing stare at the officer and said, ‘Don’t push me, just because you’re a copper doesn’t mean nothing, you wait and see’.”

Simpson was then arrested for a section 4 public order offence.

The court was told how Simpson had a “history of violence” with his most recent conviction being for two counts of causing actual bodily harm.

District judge Nana Lawrence ordered a fast delivery report from the probation service which said Simpson’s offending was beginning to “slow down”.

The court was told he now has a five-month-old child.

Simpson, of Harold Evers Way, Kidderminster, was given a curfew order for six months from 7pm to 7am which will be electronically monitored.

Simpson was visibly upset by the sentence.

Mr Lawrence said: “That is the order of the court.

“If you come back before this court for breaching proceedings I will send you to prison.”
