A FUND-raising clay pigeon shoot is being held in memory of a man who was killed in a car crash last month.

The event has been organised by the best friend of Richard Warr, who worked at Laylock’s Garden Centre in Bromyard Road, Worcester, which his family runs.

The 21-year-old was driving a Mazda pick-up truck which crashed with a Seat Ibiza near Bayton, Herefordshire, on Friday, August 5.

Mr Warr, of Pencombe, was airlifted to the Queen Elizabeth Hospital in Birmingham with head and chest injuries but he died soon after arrival.

Claire Barlow, aged 24, of Presteigne, Powys, Wales, who was driving the Seat, was pronounced dead by paramedics at the scene.

Inquests into both deaths have been opened and adjourned.

Matthew Boulton, who was Mr Warr’s best friend, has organised the shoot this weekend to raise funds for Midlands Air Ambulance.

The event takes place at Park Farm Shooting Ground, Ombersley, near Worcester, on Sunday, October 2.

Mr Boulton said: “Richard was my best friend. The air ambulance tried their best to get him to hospital in Birmingham but sadly they weren’t able to get him there in enough time to save him.”

Shortly after the accident, Mr Warr’s family released a statement which said: “Richard was a wonderful son, brother and friend to so many and we were all so very proud of him. He had an infectious smile and he was so full of character.”

Mr Boulton said the event is open to anyone with a shotgun licence but there will also be stands for novices who want to give it a try for the first time.

The cost for a sporting gun shoot is £15 per person. There will also be a down-the-line shoot at £7.50 per person. There is a £100 prize for the sporting gun shoot.

Money raised from a raffle and refreshments will also go to the charity.

The event runs from 11am to 2pm. For more information or to book a place, call Phil Saunders on 01905 620237.
