SUPERHEROES competed in a race to raise money for Acorns Children’s Hospice.

The 36 entrants, dressed as Batman and other characters, roared off for the three-day Chubby Challenge, named in memory of one of the charity’s founder members, the late Mark ‘Chubby’ Churchman, from Worcestershire Rally School, Honeybourne Airfield, on Friday.

Following a route via Eastnor Castle, they made for Sunday’s Great Egg Race final when they competed in creating the vehicle to carry a raw egg farthest powered by a washing-up bottle at the Robin Hood pub, Drayton, Chaddesley Corbett, near Kidderminster.

The winners of the Great Egg Race were Batman and Robin, who are Barry Adams and Rob Mottram, respective managing director and commercial director of A&H Construction in Halesowen.

Their colleagues Adam Willetts and Chris Wherton earlier lifted the prize for the opening rally day at Worcestershire Rally School.

Organiser Stewart Foley, a long-time supporter of Acorns, said: “Every penny of sponsorship money raised will go towards supporting care of Acorns’ children and families as entrants covered all their own costs.”

Elinor Eustace, Acorns’ corporate partnerships manager, said: “This was a wonderful event which will help the most vulnerable local families.”

Charity auctions are also being staged at Halesowen Rugby Club on Thursday, October 6.
