A CENTRE which looks after disabled children and provides respite for parents in Worcester raised money through a sponsored walk.

Children, parents and staff from New Hope in Ronkswood walked over Sabrina Bridge and the main Worcester Bridge before joining in with the city’s sixth Chalk4Peace event by the fountains in South Quay.

The annual event, which took place on Saturday, gives people the opportunity to chalk messages on the pavement to mark International Day of Peace.

Jean Wilson, whose daughter Emily is disabled, set up the centre in Walls Road in July last year.

She realised there was very little provision to care for disabled children to give their parents a break.

Ms Wilson said the walk was a big challenge for the children, who are aged between six and 19.

She said: “We have managed to raise over £250 so far which is fantastic.

“We came across the chalking at the end of the walk and joined in.

"It was really good as it gave the children an opportunity to do another activity at the end of the walk.

“The main aim of the centre is to get the kids out and about doing activities.

"In the summer holidays we went to Snowdonia, Cadbury World and did lots of other activities.”

The money raised from the walk will go towards new equipment for the centre.
