A consultation is to be held today on the latest proposals to develop Droitwich’s former Army Medals Office.

People will be asked to give their views on major plans to build 64 homes on land off Worcester Road ahead of a planning application being submitted to Wychavon District Council.

Bovis Homes has outline planning permission, and will stage an exhibition at the Sacred Heart Church Hall, Worcester Road, today, from 1pm to 9pm to get feedback from the community Information boards will show the proposals, and members of the Bovis team will answer questions.

People can also fill in feedback forms with comments and ideas. Invitations are being sent out to neighbouring homes to tell people about the event.

“We want to tap in to local knowledge to help inform our plans as we refine them ahead of making a detailed planning application,” said regional planning manager Barry Herrod.

“Our vision for this development is to create a sustainable, high-quality community that will complement and enhance the neighbourhood and the best people to help us do that are local residents.

“We will be looking for ideas and comments on house styles and the layout of open spaces.”

A website is being set up at bovishomes.co.uk/droitwich where people will be able to send in ideas and comments.

The former medals office, was used to make and distribute Army medals before it was closed in March 2006. It was demolished in 2007.

The land has since been the focus of other planning applications which have failed to come to fruition.

At the time of its closure, the office was going through its busiest period since the Second World War. The decision sparked concern in Droitwich and saw job losses.

The site has also been the focus of a land swindle debate with claims that the site should be returned to the Everton family, which gave the land to the Government in 1940 to boost the war effort.
