A VIRTUAL video tour showing how a £75 million redevelopment of a site in Worcester will look once work has finished is online for the world to see.

The video takes viewers on a journey around the Lowesmoor development, through the finished pedestrian walkways and open spaces, around shops and restaurants and to the completed Asda superstore, which is due to be the first element of the new leisure destination to open next spring.

Developers say the video, which has been created by architects Mountford Pigott, comes at a crucial time with the construction of Asda nearing completion, other retail units beginning to take shape and the signage and branding for the recently named St Martin’s Quarter due to appear over the next few weeks.

They say the tour offers residents of Worcester, as well as people living further afield, a unique opportunity to become familiar with the new destination and its place in the city before all of the walls are even built.

Selwyn Rowley, of the developer Carillion Richardson, said: “The virtual video tour is an important milestone in the development, offering everyone a glimpse into the future of Worcester city centre and showing how the new St Martin’s Quarter will be accessed and seen from different points in the city.”

People should not read too much into the names of the businesses featured in the video, though, as it is not yet confirmed what will be there once it is fully developed.

Carillion Richardson says the store names are a representation of the kind of thing people can expect to see at St Martin’s Quarter in due course – we previously reported how discussions have already taken place with several pizza and pasta restaurants, as well as sandwich bars, ethnic food and international coffee chains, while there is also interest from gym operators.

On completion, the site will include 284,050 square feet of shops, restaurants and leisure facilities which will create hundreds of jobs.
