OLDER people’s apartments are to be overhauled in a £3 million revamp by one of the city’s biggest housing associations.

Warmstry Court in Quay Street and Noele Court in Tuffrey Close, Worcester, are to be given a revamp by Sanctuary Housing.

Both residential schemes are made up of sheltered and supported housing for older people, with 62 apartments across both sites due to get a makeover. They will be upgraded with level-access showers and new kitchens.

However, this work will be carried out after the residents’ communal facilities have been refurbished.

A residents’ lounge will be improved, and a shared scooter store added as part of the scheme.

The plans were presented to residents, councillors Allah Ditta, Francis Lankester, Jabba Riaz and Liz Smith and officials, including county council Supporting People officer Allison Ball.

Noele Court resident Stella Shermer, aged 80, said: “What’s happening is very good and it will really bring the place up to date.

"It’s great that we are being kept involved in the process.”

Carolyn Hughes, Sanctuary’s older persons services manager, said: “The aim of this level of investment is to ensure the residents have facilities which allow them to be independent, irrespective of their individual situation or need.

“Our residents are at the heart of this project. This includes inviting their participation on the interview panel to appoint a contractor.”

The work will start early next year.
