AN otter has died after being shot near Worcester, according to animal charity the RSPCA.
The organisation is investigating reports that the otter was killed at Lower Broadheath on Sunday, September 18.
It was said to have been on the embankment of a pond at a fisheries business when it was shot. It is said the animal didn't die instantly but was later put out of its misery.
RSPCA inspector Pippa Boyd is appealing for anyone who witnessed anything or who can provide further information to contact the charity.
She said: "It is an offence under the Wildlife and Countryside Act to cause suffering to a wild animal. "The public must be aware that they cannot go out shooting at wildlife as wild animals are protected by law."
