COMPENSATION of about £15 million has been paid to the families of men who died in a helicopter crash in the North Sea.

All 14 passengers died in the crash on April 1, 2009, including pilot Paul Burn-ham and co-pilot Richard Menzies, a former pupil at Pershore High School.

Ten claims lodged by relatives of the 14 passengers have now been settled with insurers at Bond Offshore Helicopters.

However, it has been reported that this compensation payout does not extend to the families of Captain Burnham, aged 31, and Mr Menzies, 24, who are said to have launched separate claims worth about £4 million.

It is hoped that this will be settled within the next few months.

The investigation into the tragedy is still ongoing and no date has been set by the Worcestershire Coroners Office for Mr Menzies’ inquest to be heard.
