PEOPLE of Upton-upon-Severn have voted to have to have their landmark bridge painted duchess blue and gold.

The county council has confirmed the new colours for Upton Bridge after the public had its say on how it should be painted.

Nearly 670 people took the chance to have their say during a consultation asking what they’d prefer from a choice of five colour schemes.

Those taking part were asked to rank their preferences in the order they liked most to least. People had six weeks to register their preferences online or by filling in hard-copy forms and dropping them off at several locations in the town.

Councillor John Smith, cabinet member for highways and transport, said: “We wanted to give people the opportunity to tell us what they’d like this landmark to look like before refurbishment work starts.

“We did it because we know how important it is to the local community and the fantastic response certainly bears that out.

“I’d like to thank everyone who has taken the opportunity to have their say.

"I also wish to extend that same gratitude to the traders and organisations in Upton who’ve played their part in spreading the word and taking in forms.

"Their help has been appreciated.”

Richard Attwood, engineering project manager, said temporary traffic signals will be manually operated during peak times while the work takes place.
