A WOMAN who was inspired by her late father to “live for today” has celebrated the opening of her own bridal shop.

Emma Lloyd, who lives with her husband J and son Jack, four, in Broadway, near Evesham, wanted to open a shop when she first moved to the village seven years ago.

But when her father Don Savage died from prostate cancer on Christmas Eve, Mrs Lloyd was finally inspired to take the plunge into retailing.

The Bridal Room in Keil Close, High Street, opened on Saturday.

She said: “I had wanted to open a shop when we first moved here but never had the nerve to do it.

“We decided to ‘take a risk’ and do something I really wanted to do. I was inspired to open a bridal shop from the experiences I had when I was getting married – I was shocked at the lack of good service.

“This is probably the most important purchase for a woman, and the whole experience should be magical from start to finish, which is what I hope to offer.”

Mr Savage was diagnosed with prostate cancer 11 years ago but within the last two years he went downhill “quite rapidly”.

Mrs Lloyd said: “He sadly passed away on Christmas Eve. Although we knew it was coming, it was a huge blow to us all as a family, he is greatly missed.

“As a result, our family now takes a ‘you only live once attitude’, and if there is something you want to do you have to do it and take a risk.”

On its opening, the Bridal Room held a raffle in aid of St Richard’s Hospice, with the prize of a spa day for two people with treatments donated by the Lygon Arms Hotel and Spa.
