POLICE and firefighters rescued a drunk man from a Worcestershire river in the early hours of this morning.

Hereford and Worcester Fire and Rescue Service were called to the river under Bridge Street, Evesham by the ambulance service.

Two boats and two fire crews were sent to the river where they believed the man, who was about 25, was attempting suicide.

They pulled the man - who firefighters described as intoxicated - from the river with the help of a boat, a ladder and a stretcher just before 2.10am.

The man was left in the care of police and paramedics.
