NATHAN Vaughan is facing the sack from Evo-Stik Southern League Premier Division outfit Evesham United.

The goalkeeper has been suspended by the Robins following his sending off for foul and abusive language in the FA Cup third qualifying round 5-0 defeat at Stourbridge.

And Evesham boss Paul West says that his red card against the Glassboys was ‘the straw that broke the camel’s back’.

“Nathan has had disciplinary issues throughout his time with us,” said West, who takes his side to league rivals Barwell for their FA Trophy first qualifying round replay tonight (7.45).

“He got sent off at Bishops Cleeve for petulance in a pre-season friendly, but it is not just this season, he has had disciplinary issues throughout his time with us.

“The Stourbridge game was the straw that broke the camel’s back. I can’t keep having one player suspended, we don’t have the resources to support that.”

West says that Vaughan’s contract is likely to be terminated following the internal disciplinary hearing.

The Evesham manager added: “Nathan has been a great servant for the club, so this is a shame because he is a really likeable lad, but he won’t play for Evesham again.”

With Vaughan facing the axe, West’s woes have increased following striker Leo Brown’s conviction at Wolverhampton Crown Court for producing cannabis with a street value of £2,800 and illegally possessing a CS Gas canister.

The former Solihull Moors player was given a three-month jail term, suspended for a year, and ordered to do 150 hours of unpaid work after admitting both charges.

Brown was expected to be on the bench for tonight’s trophy replay clash at Barwell, but the Evesham boss says that is unlikely to be the case.

“This is the first that I have heard of it,” West said. “Obviously I’ve got to look into the matter.

“But I have got a game to prepare for, ultimately I have got to uphold the reputation of the club so I will look into the matter after the game.”

Meanwhile, he said his team should have put Sunday’s trophy clash at St George’s Lane to bed before the Leicestershire side snatched a 2-2 draw.

“We had our chances to win the match, so to have a replay tonight is disappointing,” West said.

“But in terms of performance it was a lot better than the Stourbridge game, so you have to be pleased with that.

“It is going to be a tough game, we both know a little more about each other now.”

The winners will visit Stocksbridge Park Steels or Ossett Town, who also replay tonight, in the second qualifying round on Saturday, November 5.
