KIDDERMINSTER Harriers academy manager Jerry Gill is hoping his young guns can pull off an FA Youth Cup shock tonight when they host League One outfit Carlisle United (7.30).

The Aggborough youngsters booked their place in the second round with a 4-2 success over West Yorkshire outfit Brighouse, while the Cumbrians comfortably saw off Sheffield Wednesday 4-1.

Former Birmingham City defender Gill is asking the Harriers’ fans to give his young guns their support.

“It’s going to be a tough game,” he said.

“I spoke to Sean McAuley at Sheffield Wednesday and he told me Carlisle are a strong outfit, which you would expect them to be as they are a club in the Football League. It’s going to be an exciting game.

“All the youth teams play the same style as the senior side so we play a little bit open, creating lots of chances in front of a solid base.

“The FA Youth Cup is very much like the main competition, it is unpredictable and, with the supporters’ backing, we could pull off a surprise.”

The winners of this second-round clash face a trip to Premier League outfit Fulham next month.

Meanwhile, Harriers’ first team will now visit Gateshead in the Blue Square Bet Premier on Tuesday, January 10, as their hosts play in the FA Cup second round on the weekend of the original date of Saturday, December 3.
