LEADING scorer Mike Symons could be in line for a shock return to the Worcester City squad for Saturday’s Blue Square Bet North trip to Bishop’s Stortford.

The 10-goal hitman picked up a hamstring injury during the 2-2 draw with Guiseley on November 5 when it was feared the former Gloucester City striker would be out for six weeks.

St George’s Lane assistant manager Matt Gardiner revealed last weekend that they were hoping Symons would be fit for the following Saturday’s FA Trophy third qualifying round clash with Harrogate Town. However, City boss Carl Heeley said his star striker may return even sooner.

“There is a chance Symo could be involved,” Heeley said. “Whether this weekend has come too soon for him, I don’t know. We are training to-night and he is our only injury concern.”

Although Symons was missed in the 4-1 defeat at Droylsden three days after picking up the injury, City showed their strength in depth last week with a 3-0 victory over Altrincham.
