THIS isn’t the first time we’ve encountered Flossie Crums, the seven-year-old who loves to bake and has a passport to the fairy kingdom of Romolonia (accessed through a chestnut tree in her garden).

This latest instalment follows a similar recipe to the other books, with Flossie’s fairy adventures (which involve having to bake for a special event in Romolonia) interspersed with recipes for elaborate and colourful fairy cakes that will have youngsters raring to get into the kitchen. But the newest book has had a redesign, with a change in format and a different artist, and it’s all the better for it – the illustrations are more vibrant and the layout more inviting.

The cakes are as mouthwatering as ever, though, with the likes of Orange and Lemon Spotty Dotty Cake and Billie’s Exploding Toffee and Chocolate Brownies with Jelly Worms just begging to be baked. With familiar fairy characters such as Honey, Plum and Minty still flitting around, this will delight fans of the previous books and doubtless attract new adherents.
