A KIND-hearted family has raised hundreds of pounds for a Worcester charity which helped them in their time of need.

Jordan Gibson, his grandmother Judy Tonks, and her friend Helen Fisher undertook several fund-raising projects, including a sponsored silence, saving pocket money, doing a 26-mile swim and giving donations in lieu of Christmas cards, to support the Carl Foundation, raising more than £700 in total.

The charity, which provides support to disadvantaged people in Worcestershire, offered the family help after learning about Jordan’s ongoing health problems. Its volunteers revamped his bedroom, provided him with a computer and sent the family away on a well-earned break to St Ives in Cornwall.

Mrs Tonks, of Claines, and her husband Mike are the main carers for the 11-year-old, who has learning difficulties.

She said the family wanted to give something back to the charity to thank it for its help.

“They’re just so good and they don’t make a big thing about what they do,” said Mrs Tonks.

“They do it quietly and they’re just so giving. They’re just amazing people. They’re so compassionate and caring that I just want to do as much as I can and Jordan feels the same.”

The Carl Foundation was set up in 2007 by the family and friends of Carl Hawkins from Powick, who was killed in a car accident in 2002.

Trustee, Julie Dyde, said: “The aim of the charity is to help people who fall between the gaps of what’s already there (in terms of support). We try to help whoever needs it so it’s just really nice that Jordan and his family did the fund-raising. We’re really happy.”
