A MALVERN business has demonstrated its continued commitment to good causes by raising £32,000 for Macmillan Cancer Support.

Westbridge Foods, based at the Enigma Business Park, raised the sum by organising and sponsoring a celebrity golf day, dinner and auction at the Celtic Manor Resort in Newport, Wales.

The Andy Gray and Gary McAllister Charity Golf Classic attracted many famous faces from the worlds of sport and entertainment, including Gordon Strachan, Mick McCarthy, Dave Beasant and Gareth Edwards.

Westbridge chairman Peter McNeil said: “This is the seventh year that Andy and Gary have given up their time and persuaded their celebrity friends to give up theirs in aid of charity. Westbridge Foods are delighted to sponsor this event and to have raised this amount for Macmillan.”

Hilary Al Rasheed, area fund-raising manager for Macmillan, said: “We are hugely grateful to Westbridge Foods for this amazing donation and to everyone involved in making the day such a success.

“It is only thanks to our many supporters like Westbridge Foods that we are able to continue to champion the cause of families affected by cancer.

“This sum of money could pay for a fully-kitted out Macmillan Information Pod, including build costs, IT equipment, furniture and décor, like the one at Worcestershire Royal Hospital.”

Earlier this year Westbridge handed out £20,000 to local causes to celebrate the opening of its new offices.

A total of £17,712 went to St Richard’s Hospice to pay for a new therapeutic garden, £2,000 to Malvern Community First Responders (CFR) to fund a new defibrilator kit and £300 to Welland Junior Football Club to help establish a new under-12 girls’ side.
