A MAN found lying unconscious in a city centre alleyway last week has died in hospital.
The man, who was in his 30s and from the Stourport area, was found seriously ill in the passageway which runs alongside Old St Martin church in the Cornmarket in Worcester at about 1.30pm on Wednesday, January 25.
He remained in hospital in a critical condition until he died on Wednesday evening and a post mortem was conducted yesterday.
Detective Chief Inspector, Gary Watson, said: "Unfortunately the post mortem has not provided an early answer to how this man died and we await the results of further tests, which could take a number of weeks.
"We remain open-minded about what we are treating as an unexplained death.
"We continue to make inquiries about the incident and if anyone saw anything out of the ordinary in the area of the Trinity last Wednesday lunchtime we would like to hear from them."
Anyone with information should call Worcester CID on 101 or anonymously via Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.
