A MAN threatened his girlfriend’s ex-husband with a Samurai sword after they visited a supermarket together.

Ashley Ellison, of Priest Lane, Pershore, held the 12-inch sword at shoulder height and threatened the man outside the address when they returned from a trip to ASDA together.

He also verbally threatened a neighbour when she saw what was going on.

The 22-year-old admitted possessing a bladed article and using threatening words and behaviour when he appeared before Worcester magistrates.

Samantha Webley, prosecuting, said the relationship between the victim and his ex-wife ended in December and they shared custody of their daughter.

Mrs Webley said the man picks his daughter up from the address every Thursday and brings her back on a Saturday but never goes into the house to avoid arguments.

On Saturday, the woman asked her ex-husband if he wanted to go to ASDA.

When they got back to her home, she asked if he would look after the children while she took the shopping inside.

Mrs Webley said: “She came out and said to him that he better go quickly ‘because Ash isn’t happy’.

“The defendant then stormed out of the front door holding a Samurai sword and said ‘I knew something was up, haven’t I told you before’.

“He was really angry and was holding the sword at shoulder height.

“The victim tried to keep things calm but the defendant kept making movements with the sword.

“He shouted at his partner to get into the house and she said that Ashley then chased him down the road.”

The case was adjourned until Friday, April 13, when Ellison will be sentenced at Worcester Crown Court.
