FIREFIGHTERS are still at the scene of a fire which tore through a Worcester nursery last night. ONE person had to be rescued from a fire which tore through a Worcester nursery last night.

Crews from Hereford and Worcester Fire and Rescue Service are at the scene damping down any hot spots and a fire investigation officer is on site.

The crews are working from outside the building while they wait for a structural engineer to determine whether the building is safe to enter.

As we reported on this website last night, Hereford and Worcester Fire and Rescue Service was called to the KinderKare nursery, in Greenhill, Battenhall, at 6.30pm yesterday following numerous reports of the blaze.

The person was rescued from a balcony prior to the fire crew's arrival and a request was made to ambulance crews to attend the scene.

West Midlands Ambulance Service confirmed they were called to the scene just after 6.40pm and an ambulance, a paramedic area support officers and the hazardous area response team attended.

The person was treated at the scene for smoke inhalation and taken to Worcestershire Royal Hospital.

The fire took hold of the first floor and roof space of the two storey building.

London Road was closed while fire crews used jets, breathing apparatus and a light portable pump to control the blaze.

The stop message was received at 9.25pm and London Road was re-opened shortly after.
