KEEN swimmers who took part in the sixth ‘Swim the Severn’ event, organised by Rotary Club of Worcester Severn, raised more than £1,000.

Sponsored swimmers including the Bishop of Worcester, the Rt Rev John Inge, and paraplegic Kim Briggs took part in the event at Worcester Swimming Pool in Sansome Walk, alongside teams from Worcester Swimming Club, Pershore Penguins Swimming Club, Droitwich Swimming Club, Worcester Citizens Swimming Pool and the Milestone Swimming Club last Sunday.

The aim of the day for those taking part was to collectively swim the equivalent length of the river Severn – about 220 miles.

The event was raising money to fund five years education for up to 20 children being taught at Waterloo Schools in Zambia, the Worcestershire Association of Carers and possibly more Shelter Boxes for Rotary’s international project for disaster relief worldwide.

The event has already raised £1,000 in corporate sponsorship and individual donations are still coming in.
