DONATIONS and offers of support have been flooding in for a Worcester pub that is organising a weekend of events in memory of 21-year-old cancer victim Anthony Dobbins.

Anthony’s family were left heartbroken when he lost his long battle with bowel cancer, caused by a rare gene deficiency, just days before Christmas.

Staff at the Talbot in Barbourne – where Anthony was a familiar face – wanted to do something to show their support so they set to work organising a fund-raising weekend in his honour.

This is taking the form of a Party in the Car Park from 1.30pm on Saturday, with a knockout poker tournament on Sunday evening.

Anthony was a keen poker player and one of his proudest achievements was winning the pub’s first annual poker tournament just weeks before his death.

At the party there will be live music, a barbecue, raffles and a host of attractions, including snail racing and sumo wrestling.

Organiser Becky Hill said everything was in place for a great weekend.

“It is all going really well. We’ve had lots of support and people have been very generous when it comes to donating things,” she said.

“Anthony got on really well with everyone here and his family still come in every week. We wanted to do something to remember him but also to show our support for them.”

Proceeds from the event are being donated to St Richard’s Hospice, which helped care for Anthony before his death.
