THIS year’s Three Counties Show in Malvern is set to be a record-breaker for the second year running.

After celebrating the best-ever livestock numbers at last year’s show, the Three Counties Agricultural Society is reporting numbers are up again in all categories for this year’s event, taking place from Friday to Sunday, June 15 to 17.

Entries are up in all sections, with sheep showing the largest increase, and 10 breed societies, including Ryeland Flock Book Society, the Zwartbles Sheep Association and the Beltex Sheep Society have chosen to stage their national events at Malvern this year.

The show is also expecting to welcome about 920 head of cattle, and is the venue for the national shows of the Longhorn, South Devon, British White, Dexter, British Blonde, Gloucester and Murray Grey breed societies.

Spokesman Sharon Gilbert is thrilled that the society’s flagship event is maintaining its momentum.

“Another year of healthy livestock entries is good news for the show, which is once again enjoying the popularity and credibility it deserves,” she said.

“We are very keen to ensure that the show continues to be a success, and have been busy improving its layout, content and operations, to make it practical and relevant for the industry which supports it with passion, year in, year out.”

Other highlights of the 2012 show are set to include the Federation of Small Businesses Food Security Debate and qualifying heats in the English Shearer of the Year competition.

There will also be live demonstrations from the WI Cookery School, with celebrity guest chefs Marcus Bean and Sophie Grigson, cheese and cider shows and a wild west show by the Devil’s Horsemen.
