WEDDING day nerves will now be the only worry for two brides-to-be after their woes were solved thanks to the Worcester News.

Gemma Humphries and her fiance Nick Lancett will be tying the knot in July, but their careful planning hit problems after their reception venue, the Bank House Hotel, Bransford, near Worcester, called in the liquidators last month – effectively wiping out their £2,070 deposit.

Now, thanks to wedding planners at the Temple Laugherne Hotel, who read about their plight in the Worcester News, the couple now have a firm venue on the date they needed.

Miss Humphries, of Moat Crescent, Malvern, said she was delighted they had a new venue without having to worry anymore about whether it would close its doors before their wedding.

“They have taken care of everything for us,” she said. “Becky Hurd [at Temple Laugherne] has been fantastic with it all and she has got us things at cost price, and managed to swing some free champagne.

"So thank you to her and to the Worcester News otherwise I don’t know what we’d have done.”

Several venues contacted the newspaper to offer help, but the couple plumped for Temple Laugherne off the Martley Road.

Becky Hurd, of Temple Event Services which is handling the wedding, said the venue hire and bridal suite hire (worth £3,500) had been waived for their wedding.

“We haven’t been here that long, we started up in May and when we saw their predicament we contacted the paper. “I’m glad we’ve been able to help out.”

Sainsbury’s in St John’s, Worcester, had donated 10 free bottles of bubbly, Peplows Jewellers has cleaned the engagement ring for free, and Worcestershire Wedding Hire has done the marquee, chairs and tables at cost-price hire.

Meanwhile, Worcester couple Sian Purser and Phil Rowley – due to marry on Saturday – who also featured in the Worcester News independently contacted the venue and will now be having their reception there as well.

“They asked us how much we had left to pay the Bank House, and they have done everything for that amount so we’re really happy,” said Miss Purser, of Prestbury Close.

“I am just so relieved. It’s a weight off our shoulders.

The Bank House’s owner Albermarle Hotels No2 remains in the hands of joint liquidators.
