A WORCESTER musical theatre youth group celebrated its 30th birthday with a party at Perdiswell Young People’s Centre and a visit from one of its staunchest fans, city mayor, Coun Roger Berry.
Coun Berry and David Humphries, chairman and director of Worcester Operatic and Dramatic Society’s Youth Section, cut the cake and the mayor accepted an invitation to attend the group’s production of Me And My Girl, at the Swan Theatre, from Tuesday, July 31, to Saturday, August 4.
Coun Berry revealed that he was an ardent fan of WODYS and, as his birthday was in August, always received a ticket to their summer musical as a birthday present.
Mr Humphries was a co-founder of the group and has been responsible for developing it into one of the best youth theatre groups in the country. He said: ‘‘I find it hard to believe that we have been going for 30 years, as it seems only yesterday that we were producing our first shows in the rehearsal rooms in Northfield Street.’’
