THE strange combination of guns and buns is proving a huge hit with women in Droitwich Spa and surrounding villages.

A women’s only clay shooting and afternoon tea club, which was launched last year in South Worcestershire, is now targeting even more members after 10 other branches were started across the country.

The group, called The Shotgun & Chelsea Bun Club, is run by Cutnall Green woman Victoria Knowles-Lacks and aims to introduce women to the sport.

The Shotgun & Chelsea Bun Club was set up in September last year at the South Worcester Shooting Ground with just five women, one Instructor and shooting ground owner John Clements.

It has now grown into a national club and boasts groups that meet on a regular basis from High Wycombe to North Yorkshire.

Organiser Victoria Knowles-Lacks said: “Women often aren’t comfortable in taking up the sport on their own as it can be rather intimidating, owing to the male dominated aspect of it, and the myths that surround shooting such as shotgun recoil.

“We make it incredibly good fun and take any kind of pressure off that ladies may experience by going to a shooting ground on their own.

“We teach women to shoot who wouldn’t normally have a go and finish it off with afternoon tea served in the most beautiful vintage china.

“For ladies who wish to show off their baking skills, they are welcome to bring a cake along.”

The group offers a special introductory rate of £35 until July 1, which includes gun hire, cartridges, clays, instruction and cake.

The next meeting at the South Worcester Shooting Ground, Hook Common, Hanley Castle, is on Sunday, June 17 at 10.45am. To book a place email info@ladies-shooting.com or call 07742793977.
