HUNDREDS of people turned out to raise money at a family fun day in the memory of a man who died in tragic circumstances.

Family and friends of 28-year-old Jamie Harding, who died on Wednesday, June 20, after being struck by a train, attended yesterday's event at the Punchbowl pub in Ronkswood, Worcester, to collect money which will be put towards his funeral and headstone.

Titled Day4Jay, the event included a tombola, raffle, face-painting, cakes, guess the name of the teddy, a balloon release, hook-a-duck, football, a walk to County Hall, pool/snooker and a darts match.

Elliot Harper, who set up the Rip Jamie King Harding page on the social networking site Facebook, which has 448 fans, said the organisers were aiming to raise more than £1,000 while celebrating Mr Harding’s life.

“There were a few hundred people there,” he said.

“Everybody was enjoying themselves and it should go on until about 9pm.”

The family fun day comes after tattoo artists Richard Boon and his business partner Jess Taylor inked people with a special design in Mr Harding’s memory last week.

Proceeds from the £10 cost of the tattoo, which features a crown interlinked with the initials JH and was designed by his uncle Robin Rice, will be donated to his family.

A shrine has also been set up close to the spot where his body was found on the track near Lark Hill Road railway bridge, Worcester.

Mr Harding, of East Street, Arboretum, Worcester, leaves two children, Justin, aged five, and Alex, 11 months.

His funeral will take place at Worcester crematorium, Astwood Road, at 1.30pm, on Friday.
