FIREFIGHTERS had to remove tiles from the roof of a home in Grafton Flyford after a fire broke out in a bedroom on Friday.
The blaze started in a rear bedroom just before 4pm and spread to the roof.
Four fire crews were needed to tackle the blaze as a lot of cladding and insulation had caught alight causing severe damage to the bedroom and the roof.
Group Commander Phil Russell, who was the officer in charge of the incident, said: “The fire started in a first floor bedroom and it was discovered by the householder.
“It was a challenging job for the firefighters as there was a lot of cladding and insulation involved in the fire. This meant they had to remove roof tiles so they could tackle the fire and stop it from spreading further.”
The cause of the fire is currently under investigation but is believed to have started accidentally with the most likely cause a defective immersion heater switch.
