A BROMSGROVE charity that helps the homeless is hoping to raise more than £1,000 in just one week thanks to some help from local businesses.

The first £650 made in donations to The Basement Project, based in Hanover Street, will be matched by several firms entering into the festive spirit.

The charity, which supports young people in Worcestershire up to the age of 25 who are at risk of homelessness, is taking part in the Big Give Christmas Challenge

Funds raised will be used to support young people at risk of homelessness over the Christmas period with food parcels, energy vouchers and Christmas hampers.

The Project offers a drop-in service, a food bank, floating support, counselling, and a mediation service.

To donate, visit theBigGive.org.uk and make a donation from 12pm (midday) on #GivingTuesday (December 1). The campaign will close at 12pm on Tuesday, December 8.

Kelly Turner, community fundraiser at The Basement Project said: “We are excited to be taking part in The Big Give Christmas Challenge, and are really grateful to the local businesses who have pledged their support to enable us to do so.

"We really could not support the amount of young people that we do without the generous support of the local community.

"We hope that, through the Big Give, the community can help us to reach our target of £1,300, which will help us to provide our clients and their families with everything they need for a safe, warm and enjoyable Christmas this year."
