BROMSGROVE Cricket Club have been attempting to hit prostate cancer for six by running far more than just between the wickets to raise nearly £3,000 for charity.

Altogether, 13 players from the St Godwald's Road club ran 800km to raise £2,724 and counting for Prostate Cancer UK.

The charity challenge was undertaken in memory of one of the club's longstanding volunteers, Andrew Jones, who died from the disease two years ago.

Prostate cancer is the most common form of cancer in the UK and more than 47,500 people are diagnosed with the illness in this country each year.

The players - Matt Banham, Mark Burrell, Greg Chinn, Lewis Cordes, Henry Dwyer, Alistair Hickman, Adam Jones, Mark Meacham, Ryan Pedley, Matt Russell, Harry Smith, Will Tuffin and Mike Wyres - surpassed their targets on two fronts.

They initially planned to run 50km each in a month - which would have equated to a total of 650km but ended up doing 800km - and their original fundraising goal was only £1,000 which they have nearly tripled.
