IT will be a more comfortable Festive Season for users of Maggs Day Centre after it received £1,000 of funding from a building trade charity.

The centre in Deansway, Worcester was presented with the money by the Screwfix Foundation, which supports projects to fix, repair, maintain and improve properties and facilities for those in need in the UK.

Mel Kirk of Maggs said: "We are very grateful to the Screwfix Foundation for donating these much needed funds to support our charity, which provides breakfast, lunch and an opportunity to shower and to launder clothes for people having to sleep on the streets. The money will go towards building repair works and the replacement of a toilet so we can best meet the needs of those who use our services.”

Stuart Livingstone, director of retail for Screwfix stores in the west, along with a number of his colleagues recently visited Maggs Day Centre to learn about the work they do, and to donate a full day of their time over the Christmas period to assist with a range of DIY projects. This included re-landscaping the garden areas around the centre, along with painting and decorating inside the day centre to give it a re-fresh. Stuart and his colleagues also arranged for extra support from one of their partners, Resolution Interiors, to help upgrade the day centre lighting making it energy efficient and providing the facility with protective cladding.

Mr Livingstone said: "We’re really pleased that one of our local charities has been awarded funding by the Screwfix Foundation. It’s fantastic to see the money raised by staff from across the business being invested back into such a worthwhile cause. What’s more, my colleagues and I have had the privilege of being able to volunteer and help Maggs Day Centre so that they can continue to provide the very best services for the centre users. We’re grateful to have had the opportunity to become involved in the local community and to support a great cause.”

The Screwfix Foundation, which launched in April 2013, donates much needed funding to help a variety of local projects throughout the UK, from repairing buildings and improving facilities in deprived areas, to decorating the homes of people living with sickness or disability. It also works closely with two national charity partners, Barnardo’s children’s charity and Macmillan Cancer Support, as well as supporting smaller, local registered charities like Maggs Day Centre.

The next round of funding will be awarded in early 2015. Relevant projects from across Worcester are invited to apply online for a share of the funding at screwfixfoundation.com.
