WORCESTER’s home-grown electrical retailer Thompsons Discount Electrical is expanding to new premises at St Modwen’s £10 million Great Western Business Park development at Shrub Hill.

The new 8,500 sq ft warehouse unit will complement the company’s current operations at Perrywood Trading Estate in Wyld’s Lane.

Thompsons has agreed a 10-year lease on Unit 403 at the business park, including exclusive use of nine car parking bays and access to an additional 30 communal car parking bays.

Established in 1985, Thompsons Electrical is a family-run retailer and wholesaler of electrical goods via ranges of new, end-of-line, clearance and graded products.

Robin Woodhouse, sales director of Thompsons Electrical Discount, said: “Despite the recent recession, this is a positive move for the company and shows it is in good heart. The new unit on Great Western Business Park will give us extra presence in Worcester and strengthen our position in the market.”

The first completed phase of St Modwen’s 23-acre Great Western Business Park comprises a total of 18 high quality industrial and storage units ranging in size from 2,218 sq ft to 23,468 sq ft.

Following a succession of deals at the business park, 13 of the completed units are now either let or sold and one is in legal process, resulting in just four units available to let or for sale on flexible, competitive terms.

Richard Tomlinson, of agents Halls Commercial, said the success of Great Western Business Park had been sealed by a raft of deals completed throughout 2010.

“Over recent months, we have seen availability become increasingly limited at the business park as interest in the quality new industrial/storage units continues to grow,” he said.

“A diverse range of occupiers have secured new business space and St Modwen has adapted to changing market conditions by providing flexible deals.”
