WORCESTERSHIRE accountancy firm Ormerod Rutter, which has offices in Droitwich, Worcester and Bromsgrove, has recruited five apprentices aged 17 to 20 through a new scheme to attract young people into the profession.

Accounts manager Doug Marshall said: “We were keen to employ young people with a good standard of English and maths, a wide range of interests and the ability to work in a team. So far they have settled in very well and we have high hopes for them. The young people in our first intake are intelligent and ambitious, but didn’t want to follow the university route.

“With us, they can start earning and learning on the job straight away and gain valuable experience of all areas of the business.”

As the apprentices work towards their Association of Accounting Technicians qualification, they will also attend Kidderminster College one day a week. If they are successful, they can then progress to the Association of Chartered Certified Accountants qualification, which takes four years to complete.

The firm is also building links with Droitwich Spa High School by giving presentations and offering work experience placements.
