A BROTHER and sister team are tackling the gruelling Run-Bike-Run event in memory of their dad.

Erin Bagral and Judd Doughty are set to take part in the 50K event to raise money for the Brain Tumour Charity, a disease that claimed the life of their father back in April.

Erin Bagral, of Yorkshire, says it was the loss of their father, Brian Doughty, that inspired them to raise money for charity and take on the event, which is running alongside the Worcester City 10K race.

The 36 year-old social worker said: "We decided to raise money for charity after dad passed away, and wanted to raise money for this charity as we wanted to help others in the same situation as ourselves.

"Our dad was diagnosed in March, and died just a few weeks later. It was very sudden, so we learnt more about it and that led us to the decision to help this charity also.

"Training is quite hard at the moment, as it's hard fitting it in with every day life, but myself and my brother are very competitive so that is spurring me on.

"The memory of dad helps us. When we are tired, the weather's poor and the last thing we want to do is go out and train, we think of him and it gives an extra lift and more motivation to do so.

"Dad was a keen runner too and would of done this no problem, so we want to make him proud."

Judd Doughty, who is the head of sports at Heart of Worcestershire College, has echoed the views of Erin and says training is going well.

He is also going to use the Run-Bike-Run event as an event to get him back into running.

Judd said: "I used to run for the county of Yorkshire as a teenager and really enjoyed it, and want to get back into it. I am looking forward to future events such as the Worcester Half Marathon next year too, and this will give me a good standing for that.

"It's a charity that is close to our hearts, and I do not want to let everyone down.

"After our dad passed it gave me more motivation, and when I'm tired or not feeling totally energised, I think how fortunate I am to be able to go out running after what has happened.

"As for who will win, I think Erin has just got the edge on me. She's in good shape. but watch this space."
