Droitwich Fire Station is hosting its ever-popular open day on Saturday, July 15.

The doors will be open from 11am until 3pm with displays and demonstrations running throughout the day.

Fire engine rides will be among the popular attractions at the Friar Street station as well as a chance to meet the Urban Search and Rescue team and dog Radar.

Droitwich boasts an ultra-heavy rescue fire engine, which can deal with building collapses and incidents involving large vehicles, and the crews can also tackle rope and water rescues.

Watch commander Shaun Moser said: “The open day was really popular last year and we hope it’s the same this time around.

“It’s a great opportunity for us to engage with the local community and for them to see what we do.

“I think it’s so popular because we try to do demonstrations that will excite the public and it is so varied here because we cover so many areas and skills at Droitwich.

“We have one of the specialist fire engines in Hereford & Worcester Fire and Rescue Service which is equipped for heavy rescue at road traffic incidents involving large vehicles.

“We also have the USAR team here and Radar, our USAR dog, along with much more.”

Other emergency services will be on hand to meet the public while there will be face painting and plenty more for all ages.

The Droitwich station has a mix of wholetime and on-call firefighters covering the town and its surrounding area.

Entry will be free on Saturday, July 15 as is any fire safety advice.

Children will be able to climb on board a fire engine, families can watch demonstrations and displays throughout the day and all money raised will go to The Fire Fighters Charity, which gives specialist, lifelong advice for members of the UK fire services community.
