A NATIONAL radio broadcaster has thanked Worcestershire hospital trust for the care they gave his mum Joan while she was in hospital.

James O'Brien, who has a national show on LBC radio, tweeted to his 820,000 followers on Sunday: "Indescribable thanks to everyone at the Alexandra Hospital in Redditch who looked after my mum yesterday.

"Please remember that front line staff have nothing to do with delays, shortages and waiting times. The NHS *is* the people that staff it."

He added a second tweet tagging in Worcestershire Acute NHS Hospital Trust's official twitter account.

The podcaster and author, who moved to Kidderminster aged three and went to Holy Trinity and Winterfold House schools, added his mum was fine now.

His father, also called James was a former reporter at the Daily Telegraph, the Kidderminster Shuttle and Birmingham Post.

In the past the former tabloid journalist - a prominent anti-Brexit campaigner - has spoken about visiting his family who still live in the county on his popular morning phone-in show broadcast from London.

Another radio presenter Andy Martindale tweeted his best wishes to James, adding: "Never easy living so far away (as I do from mine) at times when you want to be with them most."

James replied: "I’m on a flying visit but yes, it sucks."
