SIR – For some reason we are providing the French with military aid to combat terrorism in Mali.

Firstly, it was with air transport, which means RAF personnel on the ground.

Then it was spy planes, unmanned drones and other services.

Now we are sending 250 troops to train Mali troops.

All of this is under EU command because the French say they are carrying too much on their own.

Dear me. How long before those 250 become 2,000 or more.

There are three questions I would to ask our local MPs Mr [Robin] Walker, Mr [Peter] Luff and Mrs [Harriett] Baldwin.

Firstly, if the Argentineans decide to invade the Falklands again will the French sell missiles to the Argentines to kill British troops?

Secondly, how long do you think it will be before coffins draped in Union flags start returning from Mali?

Thirdly, why should we help the French in the first place?
