SIR – The report by Tom Edwards ‘Sponsorship plan for new swimming pool’ (Worcester News, February 14) opens up what could be the biggest storm in a teacup.

Sonsorship of sports stadiums is routine and a sponsor for the planned new pool at Perdiswell, together with lottery funding, would reduce the cost to taxpayers considerably.

The creation of a car park for more than 500 vehicles has already drawn public awareness to the inceased traffic in Bilford Road.

But what happens when the present leisure centre is demolished? Surely a buyer would rebuild another business needing a further car park and so leading to more cars.

There is, too, the pipedream of some Worcester City Football Club supporters having their new ground located at Perdiswell bringing even more cars.

Surely that atrocious bend opposite the tip and the hazardous junction of Astwood Road with Bilford Road cannot be overlooked much longer. Or do we have to wait for a fatality?
