SIR – Regarding the local elections.

Why should I vote for any of the Claines candidates?

I live in Pinkett Street and have done for many years and yet I have never met any of the candidates for my ward.

Do they no longer stop to have a quick door-to-door chat with their voters and explain why they should be elected and the benefits to us of them being elected?

I have had one leaflet from Sue Askin stuffed through the letter box, but I think it would have been nice if her policies had been explained to me by her or her canvassers.

This is the first time my daughter is eligible to vote.

However, she probably won’t bother as she is of the same opinion as myself.

If she doesn’t know who the candidates are, then why should she vote for them?

She wants to know how someone she may vote for is going to benefit her.

If they can’t bother to see her, then why should she bother to vote?

Sadly, that is probably the opinion of many youngsters who have the opportunity to vote for the first time next month.
