SIR – I’m sure many people in Warndon will be upset by your coverage in the letters page (Worcester News, August 20) about the Tory suggestion to change the name of Warndon Parishes.

Specifically, you displayed a picture of old (proper) Warndon represented by a telephone booth and side-byside put a picture of so-called Warndon Villages represented by blue sky, a nice tree, and big houses.

That was a gross and needless misreprentation, playing on social divisions.

The truth is that old (proper) Warndon, which I represent, is an extremely pleasant and historical part of the city of Worcester.

Most streets have wide grass verges, trees, many open green areas, and the environment is clean and tidy.

It is a harmonious community with many extended families looking after themselves.

The people are friendly, helpful, loyal, and hardworking and I will slap anybody down who says otherwise.

Of course, there are problems which are being addressed by a lot of hard work including from the community itself.

The so-called Warndon Villages, of course, are not villages at all but rather a non-descript slice of commuterland.

However, if they want to change their name to something as daft as Trotshill, then that is up to them, providing it doesn’t cost anybody else any money.

I am extremely proud and honoured to represent real Warndon and I wouldn’t ever change it for anywhere else.
