SIR – In her letter regarding the cull of Canada geese (Worcester News, September 13) Kate Fowler, head of campaigns at Animal Aid, exhibits an extraordinary misunderstanding of this matter. Controlling these geese falls well within the general licence issued by Natural England.

They are not endangered and have become a pest, destroying crops, fowling waterways and recreation areas.

Even the Royal Society for the Protection of Birds have found it necessary to control Canada geese along with shooting gulls and carrion crows to manage numbers and protect habitat and other species. Clearly, Ms Fowler fails to grasp even the most basic principles of wildlife management and conservation.
