SIR – After years of public outcry for governments to curb the numbers of immigrants into our country and now we are nearing a General Election, political parties are falling over themselves to assure us that they will act… (including the Labour party!) We have been let down so many times with politicians failing to fulfil their promises, that these promises should be ignored or a penalty imposed if they are seen to be reneging… like calling for another election and throwing them out of office.

Immigration is now top of the agenda and before our boat is capsized and we all drown an immediate stop on all immigration must be imposed. It is frightening to think that this government is relaxing entry visas to this country to the Chinese: a country with more than a billion people… and we are already unable to control the illegal immigrants, nor do we know if people granted visas are returning to their own countries.

There appears to be only one party with the resolution to sensibly deal with this critical problem and I hope the British people will grasp the nettle before, as I say, our boat capsizes.
