SIR – It is fascinating to note the silent u-turn of our MP Harriett Baldwin who was opposed to the South Worcestershire Development Plan (SWDP) when it was originally brought forward but now seems to have accepted it and is supporting its implementation.

One has to conclude that she has been told to do so by her Party superiors who are determined to develop our countryside.

At the root of this problem is the fact that the previous Labour government and the present Coalition have made no attempt to control EU immigration; in fact they are virtually powerless to do so.

Mass immigration to this country over the last year has been running at more than half a million – mainly from Eastern Europe – and that figure is set to increase now the doors have been thrown open to the people of Bulgaria and Romania.

Not only do we now need far more houses than was ever anticipated but also huge pressure is being exerted on our public services such as schools and hospitals.

The old political parties have a lot to apologise for.
